In the world of carpet cleaning, steam cleaning and hot water extraction are interchangeable terms that refer to the same cleaning process. Hot summers, snowy winters, and wet springs can be hard on our carpets in the Spokane area. Professional carpet cleaning prolongs the life of our carpets by removing the dirt and debris that will break down the carpet fibers over time. Hot water extraction or steam cleaning is a time-tested proven process of deep cleaning carpets that will leave you with a dirt free and healthy floor. Listed below is the full cleaning process you can expect to see when booking Avoda Enterprises for a carpet cleaning. If you have pets that have had accidents you can learn more about our pet treatment options.
Prior to any cleaning process it is important that carpet be inspected for any areas of staining or more frequent use. This allows us to put together a game plan and tailor our cleans specifically for the customer. Whether special stain spotting solutions or more intense agitation needs to be used in different areas will be determined during the pre-inspection. You may also see me looking around with a black light if pets are present in the home. This is to determine if pet treatment is necessary.
After pre-inspection is complete the next step will be to vacuum the entire area to be cleaned. This is in no way to make you feel bad about your cleanliness if you have already vacuumed the area prior to our arrival. The reason we vacuum is to ensure the carpet fibers are "fluffed" up and more receptive to our cleaning solutions. Also this allows us to remove any unseen debris that may damage the carpet cleaning machine.
Next, the pre-spray cleaning solution will be applied to the carpet with a sprayer. Also, stain spotting may be done during this phase, depending on the stains present. The pre-spray cleaning solution is the primary cleaner of the whole process and will begin drawing the dirt and debris out of the carpet fibers. It typically takes about 15 to 20 minutes for the cleaning solution to work.
Agitation allows us to work the cleaning solution further into the carpet fibers, ensuring the maximum amount of dirt and debris will be removed from the carpet. For this I may be using a manual brush or a counter rotating brush to agitate the carpet, depending on the size of the area and soiling of the carpet.
The hot water rinse is what gives this cleaning method it's name. Hot water or steam will be sprayed onto the carpet and extracted using a strong vacuum. The water sprayed from the cleaning wand leaves at a temperature well above the boiling point and acts as good antimicrobial. During the rinse the cleaning solution that was used earlier to attract the dirt and debris will also be removed leaving behind a clean carpet.
After the hot water rinse is complete I will remove and pack up the cleaning equipment. While doing this, the carpet will be re-inspected for cleanliness. Drying will naturally occur over the course of typically a few hours, and can be sped up by allowing fresh air into the home by opening doors and windows. During this time it is encouraged to stay off the cleaned carpet because it is more receptive to dirt from your feet / shoes. I can leave booties to help if you need to move around the house during the drying phase.
